Against the wishes of the majority of Allerdale council taxpayers, the Labour Party in Allerdale are railroading through their plans for the ‘Workington Community Stadium’ - already estimated to cost £24-26m before the final costings are known.
Allerdale Borough Council don’t have £24m, and that figure will only increase. Front line services are being cut, and this Labour Council have made the equivalent of a quarter of their staff redundant in the last 8 years.
All options currently on the table end up in a council taxpayer funded deficit of millions of pounds to year 5 - and even then, breaking even after that is dependent on gates of 7500 and Super League by year 5 for Workington Town, and gates of 2600 coupled with promotion for Workington Reds. While we hope that they can achieve these ambitious targets, it is incredibly risky to borrow £24m+ on the back of it.
However they decide to fund it, taxpayers carry the risk for 30+ years and we will see REDUCED SERVICES for INCREASED COUNCIL TAX.
Tell Allerdale Borough Council that they should be a council for ALL of ALLERDALE.
